SUPPORT A NATIONAL CHILD POVERTY TARGET
Child poverty is a solvable problem when there is the political will to act. We were able to cut child poverty in the U.S. nearly in half in 2021, but due to the expiration of improvements to the Child Tax Credit and other assistance, we significantly backtracked on this progress in 2022 and caused child poverty to more than double in one year.
The Child Poverty Reduction Act of 2023 commits to cutting U.S. child poverty in half in 5 years, creating the accountability needed to pass and implement policies that result in sustained, long-term progress. There is no justification for 9 million children in the United States to experience poverty every day when we have the evidence as to what works. We hope you will join us in taking action to urge Congress to pass the Child Poverty Reduction Act without delay.
